A New Model for English Studies in Korea: Scholarship, Cultural Translation and Professional English for the Global Context
Purpose of Project
To readjust, and manage accordingly, the curriculum implemented at the Ewha English Department¡¯s Graduate Program so that 1) the academic level of its respective studies achieves a higher standard that enables its acknowledgment in the international arena, and 2) the needs for a pragmatic approach to education, which is being continuously emphasized by the current society, are appropriately met.

To be applied comprehensively in all operations (education, research, training) of each respective teams. Also, the educating and training process of each teams are interconnected and thus cooperative in all aspects.
- Globalization: Obtaining academic competitiveness in the international stage; Achieving high English proficiency; Promoting Korean-oriented contents to the global arena.
- Pragmatization: Elevating the degree program¡¯s academic standards for international competitiveness; Responding to the concurrent needs of today¡¯s cultural industry for a solid foundation in liberal arts; Developing a distinguished model of English education for each specific level of aptitude.
- Localization: Building a network which connects the English scholars residing in the Asian region; Establishing an autonomous canon of English Language and Literature that is more attuned to the Korean sentiment; Initiating a Koreanized model of English education.
- Information Orientation: Operating an internet-based scholastic e-journal; Making/maintaining a database for English speaking users which focuses on internationally acknowledged Korean literature; Creating/maintaining a portal website which accentuates an Asian approach to the field of English Language and Literature
